Gifted Magnet

Overview of the Gifted Magnet Program

Program Description:
The Peary Gifted Magnet Program offers an enriched and challenging academic environment designed to nurture the unique abilities of gifted students. Teachers of gifted/talented students differentiate the core curriculum through various means, including flexible groupings, acceleration of content, independent study, tiered assignments, interest centers, learning centers, compacting in student’s area of strength, mentorships, adjusting questions, honors and advanced placement courses, and use of above grade-level resources. Peary MS Gifted program upholds a more rigorous standard providing differentiation, rather than “One-Size-Fits-All” instruction as an integral part of the regular school day. We also provide:
  1. Emphasis on developing higher-level thinking skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities
  2. Instruction by teachers specially trained in gifted education practices
  3. A supportive environment where gifted students can learn among intellectual peers
  4. Preparation for advanced high school programs, including IB, Honors, and Advanced Placement classes
Our program is designed to challenge gifted students intellectually while also addressing their social and emotional development needs.
